Our Catholic Newman Center is having its 8th Wildcat Awakening (WAKA) Retreat this fall on October 5-7. Last year we had 22 retreatants attend the retreat as well as about 24 staff members.WAKA is a wonderful retreat, especially for students just entering college. They are invited to enter into prayer and, most importantly, grow in their relationship with Christ. Students participate in Eucharist and Reconciliation, listen to testimonies from their peers, and engage in reflection and discussion. Wildcat Awakening also helps them to connect with the wonderful Catholic community on campus. I have been on many retreats, but I have never attended one that is used to bring about as much lasting change as WAKA. It is student led, and all of the staff members are peers who have attended WAKA in the past and are passionate about sharing the experience with others. I attended Awakening for the first time three years ago, and Christ changed my life during that weekend. I was raised Catholic and had a relationship with Christ, but I did not know much about my faith. I had issues trusting in the love and mercy of Jesus, as well as that of other people. WAKA allowed me to begin to feel God’s love in a more tangible way, and the community I was invited into during the retreat has allowed me to grow closer to Him. One of the things that makes WAKA so life-changing is the emphasis placed on prayers for the retreaters. Staff members start praying for students months before they sign up, and there is secret perpetual adoration happening on site throughout the retreat. Prayer is what holds WAKA together, and I am asking you to be a part of this in the time leading up to the retreat and during the retreat itself. Please pray for the retreat members to be open to Christ and that they draw closer to Him. Having an exam for admission to PhD, this november. I find it very difficult to study the portions as time is found to be very limited,Need holy spirit guidance to study and manage time well. I have frequent migraine headaches, body pain, not able to concentrate and tiredness that prevent me studying well, want Jesus to free me from such distractions. Only through his wisdom can I win. Do keep in prayers so I pass it with JRF scholarship with Jesus's grace. My father be freed of his addictions (smoking, alcohol), and be drawn closer to the lord and my mother be cured of  her thyroid problems. Pray so that I have a good relationship with my sibling. My neighbor called me today to request prayer for a young girl she works with, Jessica, I do not know her last name but God knows who she is.  This girl has felt drained for some time, her Mom took her to the Dr time after time they could find nothing but recently found she had Cancer that now has spread to breast, lymph nodes and liver.  They found it late but not too late for God to heal.  I had Cancer in 2008 and had requested prayer, and prayed and it has never returned.  I also requested prayer for the neighbor, Penny who had breast cancer and she is doing well with Chemo and the Cancer is shrinking, she is not sick with the Chemo.  Now Penny fears for her friend and we are praying and are requesting your prayers too.  Thank you for your time and for the prayer.

My neighbor called me today asking me to pray for another neighbor, Mother of 4 children at home, who is in the hospital with stage 4 cancer and her family is so hurt and upset because they say she is dying.  One of her sons, who was in an accident previously, was left crippled and mentally handicapped, is so upset.  This woman worked until she collapsed, that is when they found the stage 4 cancer.  Please pray for this woman and her family & we will also be praying for them and for those of you who pray and give us such comfort. 
My friend, Clarisse, had a stroke this morning and is in a semi-coma.  She is 86 years old and I know when my sister had a stroke she was screaming with a headache and she died. I have a dear friend who is surrounded by people she loves who are either dying or in ICU and she sounds so fragile i worry for her because her health is not the best.  She prays regularly and pays tithing on even the times I have given her $5.00 or $10  and money she receives for selling bottles and cans.  She has a friend she has known all her life who is in ICU with a stroke and my friends Dr just told her that she also has very narrow veins and a possible blockage.  My friend has lost her immediate family and has no children, no siblings or close relatives.  Please pray for her health and emotional condition. My friend was getting out of her car tonight, it is cold here now and saw a man being chased from the trash bins where he was trying to find bottles and cans for recycling.  She asked him why he was being chased away and he told her he was hungry and trying to find bottles and cans to sell so he could eat.  She asked if he was homeless and he said he stays in a tent.  She said he was in his early to mid 60's and was thin and gray haired.  She gave him $20.00 and called me and asked me to pray he will be granted shelter and plenty of food.  We will also pray for those in need of prayer on this prayer list.  His name is Terry, she did not know his last name but God knows who he is.  Thank you for your prayers for Terry, who is cold and hungry and homeless.  Please pray he will never be cold, hungry and homeless again, that God will guide and protect the homeless.

My neighbor, Penny, had a double mastectomy and for some reason her incisions are opening and she is in pain, please pray for her quick healing and freedom from all cancer.  I am having unbearable muscle spasms in my hands, feet and legs and my prescriptions can only be taken 3 a day and last night and this morning they were coming every two hours and I feel drained and tired, I am 87 and I would appreciate prayer for freedom from muscle spasms and healing for both Penny and me.  Thank you for your prayers and I will be praying for others on your prayer list also.

I have been praying for my addicted friends and family, there are so many, some addicted to alcohol, some to prescription drugs, or street drugs, cigarettes, and food when they are unhealthy overweight and cannot lose the weight.  It may not seem much but they are in danger of losing their lives.  I am humbly requesting prayers for them and for my friends & loved ones who are sick and in need of prayer. And finally, I request prayer for myself, I am 87 and having my teeth pulled and dentures made and I have very, very painful spasms which are so bad my Dr has prescribed medication for relaxing the muscles but I can only take 3 per 24 hour period and they only last two hours.  I have a fear I will have them during the removal of my teeth because I cannot be put to sleep due to other health problems and because I am 87 and high risk.  I have not had a spasm today so I will call to make an appointment but I am so afraid they will come back.  Please pray for me too.  I will also pray for the people who have requests on here also. First I want to thank you for praying for the prayers for my friend Lynda Byrnes, her ulcers have healed, but she has gained weight and cannot seem to lose it, she has kidney problems and heart problems and has a restrictive diet for those things and still cannot lose weight and her arthritis is worse and her weight is worse, she never smoked but also has emphysema and cannot breathe well.  Please pray she can lose the weight and be healed, she has no husband, no children and is so alone with her problems.  Thank you for the prayers.  Our friend Clarisse is still in the hospital and not able to see anyone after her stroke, please continue to pray for her healing.  My daughter, Casey, also is not in good health and has many problems and I am so afraid for her, please pray for her, I am afraid I am going to lose her as I lost my Nephew and sister.  My Cousin, Marsha Wilkerson, has C.O.P.D., bad arthritis, a crippled leg and I suspect she has early Alzheimer's, she lives on the Arizona border and she is alone, her son is dead and her daughter is not speaking to her and her grandson and his fiance' are possibly doing drugs and do not always go to the store for her and Marsha does not drive and there is no delivery service in her area and she is frightened and cannot seem to take good care of herself and cannot go to the post office to pick up her mail or pay her bills, she would like to die quietly but knows that would be wrong to speed her death but she is alone and needs someone to step in and help her, I am 87 and too far away even if I was able to do much but I am praying for all these people and I will certainly continue to pray for them and the people on this prayer list and of course for my own healing (but I am not in as bad a shape as the people I am requesting prayer for). Please pray for my  Elderly mother Elaine Smith, she was diagnosed with lung cancer stage IV and only has months to live. Lou Cummings, 87, just called me from the hospital, in Columbus Ohio, she broke her hip and is going into surgery right now, she is requesting prayer, there are many pain killers and medications she cannot take because of fragile health, please pray she will not be able to feel the hip operation pain and will live through this and will heal quickly. My neighbor, Penny, who I had requested prayer for her cancer removal is doing well.  She stopped me on the way in today and asked me to request prayer for her brother and the Principal where she works, the Principal had cancer and the Dr said it has returned and the Drs told Penny's brother he appears to have Cancer of the Prostate.  Penny said to thank you for your prayers, she feels it was prayer that helped her survive the double mastectomy and she asked me to request prayer for her brother and the principal. I have a friend in the hospital, she is 86 and afraid she is dying after a fall, the nurse said she is getting worse, not better after several weeks in the hospital.  Please pray she will be healed quickly or if God is planning to take her please pray she will go gently, without pain or fear.  And I am 87 and losing my energy, strength, and I am in pain a lot, I need energy and strength to clean my house, I am ashamed my house is cluttered and I cannot bend without fear of falling and I really need to clean and organize my apartment and I have a fear of not having enough to pay my rent and utilities and having groceries, prices go up and my social security does not and I worked until I was 85 and cannot work any longer.  Please pray I will be able to function better, to clean and organize my apartment and be able to survive and blessed with ability to pay bills and eat and not worry all the time. My neighbor, Penny, is suffering after effects of her Chemo treatment, including depression after double mastectomy.  Please pray for her suffering to end and she can continue a life of helping others as she does daily.  Also, I have a friend who is elderly, Denese, who is suffering from headaches and muscle spasms in her neck and her Dr said he cannot give her medication for the spasms due to her age, please pray for her relief from pain.  Denese has a son who is trying to fight drug addiction, please pray for him to be strong and lose the desire for drugs, please include all drug addicts as this is so rampant in this country.  Also, my friend, Lynda, is suffering from sharp pains in her feet and she is trying to work and really suffering, cannot afford not to work, please pray for her, she is in her 70's.  Also I have full body Arthritis of several kinds and I am 87 and I wake up all night yelling or crying with pain, please pray for the pain to heal, go away, it is getting worse and my hands are closing and I can hardly raise my right arm, my house needs cleaning and I am embarrassed to be hurting all the time.  I try not to complain or whine because God has blessed me with loving people in my life, always has. I just found out Raylee is 4, not 7, and they had delayed the liver transplant but it is all but completed now, they will hook up the bowels and it will be complete but everything seems to be going well. I also ask your prayers for my Niece and her husband going to Spain to visit his daughter in the Service, I pray that they will have a safe and pleasurable trip. Thank you for continuing your prayers for little 4 year old Raylee's liver transplant.  The Drs have closed her up and said we should know within a year if the transplant really attached and is growing.  Please continue to pray for her and her family.  I also have a request for my friend Lynda who is having a very bad time with things going wrong in her life, she is alone and recently failed her drivers license test several times, from the questions it sounds like they accidentally gave her the COMMERCIAL Drivers test since so much was about hauling loads, tie downs, etc, things I have never had to answer, she is so frightened and upset as she needs to drive almost daily and needs to renew before middle of February.  I think most of all she is frightened that so much has gone wrong this month and she said she has cried for 3 days, being alone with no living family. Little Raylee is home after the gift of life donated from a teen girl and Raylee is celebrating her birthday today,  She is doing well. Raylee, who is 5 and recently had a liver transplant has taken a turn for the worse and going back into the hospital for a biopsy.  Please pray for her healing, she just turned 5 years old.  Also, please pray for all the people who are addicted, whether to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, food or what every to be healed of their addictions.  I am so thankful that I have been free from cigarettes since 1992 or 1993, prayer did that, I could not. My friend who receives a small amount from Social Security and a small retirement and for a while a payment from an inheritance, and she had called IRS & was not enough to file income tax, all combined, and she did not file.  She owns a shredder and goes nuts with it and had accidentally shredded her papers along with all her utility bills and bank statements for the year and now the IRS wants copies of all that from 2019.  She has obtained copies of all except the inheritance and she cannot reach the attorney's office who sent her the yearly inheritance to prove it was not enough to file income tax on.  She has called all hours  for over a week and gets a recording saying they will return her call but they do not return her call and she is beginning to panic as the date for returning copies to IRS is approaching quickly.  She called me and asked me to request prayer for help as we are all scared of IRS, even the  very poor who receive Medi-Cal & food allowance from the state.  IRS has NO MERCY, I know because my son has paid on a mistake on his tax and when he was younger and for many years withheld from his social security,  and they have told him that he has paid in full & they would stop, but  then told him he has not paid in full, and it has been MANY years, and it has been years with no end in sight and he never made that much to begin with, he struggled all his youth and he is 70 and still paying.  IRS does not see us as human and does not care if you do not have enough to live on.  Please pray that the Attorney will help my friend and return her calls to send her copies of the payments made to her  so she can quickly clear this up with IRS.  I had told her and told her not to shred without double checking but she has a very small apt and and tries to keep it spotless and has no room for storage of old records.  She had CALLED IRS to see if she owed on what she received and they had told her no, she wrote down who she spoke to and the dates of the calls,  but shredded everything and now has nothing to prove she did not earn enough to file.  She is 72 and receives Medi-Cal and barely makes it now.  She is scared to death because the Attorney will not return her calls.  Also please pray for my son that they will finally stop withholding from my Son's Social Security as he is 70 years old and has been told it was paid in full years ago and they are still withholding from his, so we have to live together but I am 88 and will not always be here to give him a hand, he will be homeless because the waiting lists for affordable homes is years now in CA. I have a friend who is having problems with her tooth, who has stage 3 kidney problems, who is having so much tension and  not getting along with people she usually enjoys.  I would appreciate prayer for me and my family also, that we will come together in a loving way and be a blessing to each other.  I am 88 and get tired so easily, have so many problems with muscle spasms, I would appreciate prayer that both my friend and I to feel better and are a help to others instead of a stumbling block. Her family is frantic, the child is afraid, Please pray for her healing and for God to look on her and her family with mercy and compassion, to not let this child suffer. 170	51584	Charlene	Upland, CA	I just found out Raylee is 4, not 7, and they had delayed the liver transplant but it is all but completed now, they will hook up the bowels and it will be complete but everything seems to be going well. Thank you for your prayers for her continued health and recovery. I also ask your prayers for my Niece and her husband going to Spain to visit his daughter in the Service, I pray that they will have a safe and pleasurable trip. Thank God for the wonderful opportunity for them to visit the daughter and bless the young man staying at their home who was abused in the past, we pray his live will be better and he will be a blessing and be blessed through the remainder of his life. Thank you so very much for your kind prayers and I am praying for God to hear and bless all who pray and who are prayed for. Thank you again, I bleieve it is a miracle Raylee received a liver in time to save her life, only a couple days after she was put on the waiting list, the Dr said her liver was already gray and the child was near death when we requested prayer. The Drs have closed her up and said we should know within a year if the transplant really attached and is growing. Please continue to pray for her and her family. I also have a request for my friend Lynda who is having a very bad time with things going wrong in her life, she is alone and recently failed her drivers license test several times, from the questions it sounds like they accidentally gave her the COMMERCIAL Drivers test since so much was about hauling loads, tie downs, etc, things I have never had to answer, she is so frightened and upset as she needs to drive almost daily and needs to renew before middle of February. I think most of all she is frightened that so much has gone wrong this month and she said she has cried for 3 days, being alone with no living family. I also, would appreciate prayers for my own family, we have felt broken for several years, there does not seem to be the love and trust that was there at one time, I would appreciate coming together with my children in love and trust. Thank you for the many prayers requested and granted through the years. I will also pray for all those requesting prayers on this site, life is very hard sometimes and I thank God I have been so blessed in so many ways throughout my life. Thank you.

Also, I have another prayer request, my step son called me today and his brother is taking tests to prepare for an operation on his spine, we do not know the date of the operation yet but please pray for natural healing and also for release of the pain and his addiction to the medication to the medication he was prescribed. I know I have many requests but I also would appreciate prayer for all people who are addicted, whether it is addiction to drugs, medication, alcohol, food, cigarettes, whatever. It is terrible for them, nobody WANTS to be addicted to anything.. I also offer prayer for others who are requesting prayer. Thank you

Please pray for her healing, she just turned 5 years old. Also, please pray for all the people who are addicted, whether to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, food or what every to be healed of their addictions. I am so thankful that I have been free from cigarettes since 1992 or 1993, prayer did that, I could not. I will pray for all the people who requested prayer and I thank you for all the prayers that were given for my own requests.
174	53272	CS	Upland, CA	I have a grand nephew, I love him dearly, he is very good to me, but he is becoming a skinhead from all indications and it breaks my heart, he has always been loving and kind. I would appreciate prayer that God will guide him back to being a loving, un-bigoted young man as the only way someone will change is if they WANT to change and he won't listen to me. Also, please pray Penny's hair will regrow thick and healthy after Cancer treatment. Please pray little Raylee will accept the new transplant, she is 5 now. Also, please pray for healing and release from addiction for all who are addicted to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or any unhealthy addiction. 175	53603	Charelne Sparks	Upland, CA	My friend who receives a small amount from Social Security and a small retirement and for a while a payment from an inheritance, and she had called IRS & was not enough to file income tax, all combined, and she did not file. She owns a shredder and goes nuts with it and had accidentally shredded her papers along with all her utility bills and bank statements for the year and now the IRS wants copies of all that from 2019. She has obtained copies of all except the inheritance and she cannot reach the attorney's office who sent her the yearly inheritance to prove it was not enough to file income tax on. She has called all hours for over a week and gets a recording saying they will return her call but they do not return her call and she is beginning to panic as the date for returning copies to IRS is approaching quickly. She called me and asked me to request prayer for help as we are all scared of IRS, even the very poor who receive Medi-Cal & food allowance from the state. IRS has NO MERCY, I know because my son has paid on a mistake on his tax and when he was younger and for many years withheld from his social security, and they have told him that he has paid in full & they would stop, but then told him he has not paid in full, and it has been MANY years, and it has been years with no end in sight and he never made that much to begin with, he struggled all his youth and he is 70 and still paying. IRS does not see us as human and does not care if you do not have enough to live on. Please pray that the Attorney will help my friend and return her calls to send her copies of the payments made to her so she can quickly clear this up with IRS. I had told her and told her not to shred without double checking but she has a very small apt and and tries to keep it spotless and has no room for storage of old records. She had CALLED IRS to see if she owed on what she received and they had told her no, she wrote down who she spoke to and the dates of the calls, but shredded everything and now has nothing to prove she did not earn enough to file. She is 72 and receives Medi-Cal and barely makes it now. She is scared to death because the Attorney will not return her calls. Also please pray for my son that they will finally stop withholding from my Son's Social Security as he is 70 years old and has been told it was paid in full years ago and they are still withholding from his, so we have to live together but I am 88 and will not always be here to give him a hand, he will be homeless because the waiting lists for affordable homes is years now in CA. Please pray for my son and friend. Thank you.

I have a friend who is having problems with her tooth, who has stage 3 kidney problems, who is having so much tension and not getting along with people she usually enjoys. I would appreciate prayer for me and my family also, that we will come together in a loving way and be a blessing to each other. I am 88 and get tired so easily, have so many problems with muscle spasms, I would appreciate prayer that both my friend and I to feel better and are a help to others instead of a stumbling block. Also I request prayer for all people who are addicted to drugs, alcohol, or anything that is not good for them, that we, and all our friends become better people each day, that our country will be safe and thrive in all good ways. That wars will stop and we can get along.
