On Monday, May 11 Mother General María, Mother Assistant Joseph Christine, Mother Provincial Julie Marie and her assistant Sr Christian Maria arrived in New York for the last leg of their U.S. itinerary.
After a joy-filled welcome from all the superiors from the Baltimore-Brooklyn province, together with the Little Sisters and Residents from Queen of Peace Residence and the Novitiate, Mother General and her companion settled into several days of meetings with the homes’ superiors and the national vocation team.
The week was punctuated by a jubilee celebration for Fr Miguel, a Spanish priest now in the USA whom Mother General has known since he was a young boy, and a visit to all the Residents at Queen of Peace. Father Ernest Lelievre and the Statue of Liberty, played by two employees, were on hand for her brief visit to the home.
The internationality of the house was on full display as Mother General spoke to Residents, staff and volunteers in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and perhaps another language or two. Father Lelievre presented her with a basket full of fresh “big apples!”
Little Sisters from several other homes in the province joined those gathered at the Novitiate for Mass and dinner on Thursday, gathering 70 Sisters in one room for a joyful encounter.
Mother María and Mother Joseph Christine set off for France on Friday, May 16. They enjoyed their time in America, but are no doubt happy to be back in La Tour Saint Joseph!
